HS2 Protest

The High Speed Rail link between Euston and Birmingham was given the green light recently to plough its way through the Buckinghamshire Area of Outstanding Beauty.
Supporters of High Speed rail have continually referred to opponents as “NIMBY’s” which is a derogatory term created from the letters of the phrase “Not in my back yard”.

However, this only serves to trivialise the opinions of local people, who see this as not only a monumental waste of taxpayers money, but the thin end of a very thick wedge. They feel that the project is designed to break the protection afforded by the AONB status, that was afforded to this remarkably unspoilt area so many decades ago.
