Some websites have a huge wealth of possibilities for artistic licence and just the nature of the business may be inspirational. Others are a little more difficult to portray in an attractive way, yet it is often these sites that result in something more fulfilling for the designer.
Drain and sewer cleaning does not exactly conjure up many pretty images in my head, living as I do in a neighbourhood where drains have been historically quite temperamental. Drainage is an essential part of modern life, yet one that we seldom have cause to think about. When we do however find ourselves reminded of its presence, it is usually the wrong time of day and the wrong time of year.
The problems are often compounded with leaves getting into external gullies and as they rot down they cause sediment to gather on joints in the pipework. The next thing you know, you are beginning to know more about your neighbours than you ever wished to discover… but I digress!
The point of my elaborate wanderings, is that leaves are pretty things, especially at that time of year when they do detach themselves and create work for drainage companies. So I took that theme and developed it as a background to the site, selecting the colours form my image as the core colours for the text and borders.
An easy way to discover which colours I could extract from the image, was to use the eyedropper in Photoshop and convert the image into a Mosaic using the packaged filter so I could better separate the colours from each other.
